Here’s a recap of some of the latest AEC mergers and acquisitions that have been announced in recent weeks.

August 25, 2020The Kleinfelder Group (San Diego, CA), an engineering, design, construction management, construction materials inspection and testing, and environmental professional services firm, acquired substantially all of the assets of Garcia and Associates (St. Anselmo, CA). The transaction adds integral environmental planning and permitting services to Kleinfelder’s West Division.

August 14, 2020 – Multi-disciplinary firm SEPI (Raleigh, NC) acquired Foley/Kolarik (Palmetto, FL), a planning and design firm. Speaking on this and another recent acquisition SEPO President/CEO Sepi Saidi stated “These acquisitions position us as a powerhouse firm across a variety of service offerings pertaining to urban design, land development, and across the AEC (architecture, engineering and construction) industry as a whole."

August 10, 2020 – Atlas Technical Consultants (Austin, TX), a provider of professional testing, inspection, engineering, program management and consulting services entered into a definitive agreement to acquire WesTest (Lakewood, CO), a 40-person provider of transportation-related materials testing and inspection services. L. Joe Boyer, Atlas’ Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are excited to welcome WesTest to the Atlas family. The addition of WesTest will expand our testing and engineering capabilities in the rapidly growing Colorado region, where we can lay the groundwork to scale up our transportation and infrastructure services.”

August 3, 2020 – Healthcare analytics, planning and design firm Trinity: Planning, Design, Architecture (Columbus, OH) merged with NAC Architecture (Spokane, WA). The Trinity Columbus office and NAC’s healthcare studio will be called Trinity:NAC. Existing NAC Architecture offices in Spokane, Seattle, and Los Angeles will be NAC.

August 3, 2020 – Atlas Technical Consultants (Austin, TX), a provider of professional testing, inspection, engineering, program management and consulting services, entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Alta Vista Solutions (Oakland, CA), a provider of transportation-related testing and inspection services. L. Joe Boyer, Atlas’ Chief Executive Officer, said, “Alta Vista’s transportation focus, wide range of services and established presence in California and New York will provide an exceptional fit for Atlas. The ability to self-perform more work is a key part of our growth strategy.”

August 3, 2020 – Engineering and environmental consulting firm Civil & Environmental Consultants (Pittsburgh, PA) acquired civil engineering and land survey firm SITEC (Dartmouth, MA). SITEC provides design and engineering for residential subdivisions, retail and commercial developments, and office and industrial buildings.
